New Government Funding for Farm Safety

The Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) will receive $1.6 million over three years from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) under the AgriCompetitiveness Program. This funding aims to enhance safety measures for farmers and agricultural workers across Canada.

The investment supports key initiatives such as grain entrapment prevention, educational resources for children, farm safety events, and the collection of agricultural fatality data. CASA will also provide national leadership on farm safety and connect community partners with vital health and safety information.

“This continued support and commitment of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to the safety and well-being of Canadian farmers is essential to the work that CASA does,” said Sandra Miller, CASA’s Executive Director. “Every dollar supports programs that help to build a safe and sustainable agriculture industry where healthy Canadian farm communities thrive.”

“Our hardworking farmers do so much for us, from putting food on our tables to keeping our economy strong,” said the Honorable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food. “This funding will help ensure they are safe and taking care of their own health – both mental and physical – so they can continue doing the vitally important work they do. By supporting farmers and their families, we’re helping to build stronger, safer agricultural sector for everyone.”

This funding coincides with Canadian Agricultural Safety Week (CASW), held from March 16-22, 2025, promoting awareness under the theme #FarmSafetyEveryday. During this time, farmers and communities are encouraged to prioritize farm safety.

CASA remains committed to improving farm safety nationwide, ensuring the well-being of farmers, their families, and agricultural workers. With continued support, CASA and its partners work to create a safer future for Canadian agriculture.
