The George Morris Centre – a Guelph, Ontario agriculture and food industry think-tank was chosen as one of Waterloo Area’s Top Employers for 2013.

It’s not the first time that the agricultural research institute has ranked in the Top Employers list – the academic research institute has made the impressive list four times previous to its 2013 standing. The regional competition is run by Mediacorp Canada Inc., who is best known for its Canada’s Top 100 Employers list.

Some of the winning qualities that the George Morris Centre possesses include:
• Flexible work hours
• Paid health benefits
• Financial contributions towards education and professional development activities
• Financial contributions towards health and wellness which also include professional development activities

The small 12 person staffed research institute seeks to provide its employees with a flexible, friendly working environment. Researchers are given the flexibility to work remotely from home or even in some cases outside the country which adds to its results driven approach. The Centre has also been progressive in offering employees an allowance (up to $200) to put towards activities that promote a healthy lifestyle – which could be anything from a gym membership, or even personal hobbies.

The Centre provides information and analysis regarding issues relating to agriculture and provides reports, data and workshops to those involved in the agriculture industry. More information about the George Morris Centre can be found at http://www.georgemorris.org
