Monster Corn Yield Projected

US corn yield forecast rises with more rain in the forecast while cattle trade impacted by trade.

On the weekly Ag Commodity Corner+ Podcast, Farms.com Risk Management’s Chief Commodity Strategist Moe Agostino and Commodity Strategist Abhinesh Gopal, provided market insights for the week of July 7 to 11 focused on rising corn yields, trade tensions, and shifting investor sentiment.

StoneX Group has projected a massive U.S. 2025 corn yield of 186.9 bushels per acre. The USDA's July crop report came with no major surprises, maintaining a steady outlook for the season.

However, a lack of new U.S. trade deals or agricultural purchase agreements for over three months continues to pressure the ag market fund sentiment. Instead of easing, tariff threats have escalated — with potential tariffs of 30% on Japan, 25% on South Korea, 35% on Canada, and 50% on Brazil and copper. These developments weigh heavily on agricultural fund sentiment.

Despite this, investment funds remain attracted to non-agricultural sectors. After three years, funds continue pouring into Bitcoin ETFs and AI tech stocks, with NVIDIA (NVDA) hitting record highs and becoming the first to reach a $4 trillion market cap.

Weather conditions in the U.S. remain favorable for July, with some rains finally reaching previously dry areas like northern Illinois.

Meanwhile, Western Canada forecasts periodic rain every 3–4 days with no major heat risks. Yet, farmers there report that rain predictions often do not result in actual rainfall.

On the livestock front, the U.S. has again closed its border to Mexican feeder cattle due to screwworm concerns — a restriction expected to remain. Combined with new U.S. tariffs on Brazil, this supply limitation is expected to keep the cattle market bullish.

As Agostino and Gopal highlighted, weather, trade policy, and global investment trends continue to shape this season’s ag market landscape.
