A South Dakota farm family is hoping a book will help more families stay safe on their farms.

Staying Safe on the Farm with Jaxon by Mary Mandery was written in honor of Jaxon Boomsma, who passed away in 2017 at the age of seven after a farming accident.

Members of Jaxon’s family are co-authors of the book.

The little boy loved spending time with both sets of grandparents at their individual farms, and that’s what the book reflects.

It’s about “Jaxon on the farm that he loved and he loved both grandparents’ farm,” Troy Boomsma, Jaxon’s father, told Keloland.

The book includes tips for how to stay safe around animals, farm equipment and more.

Though it’s a children’s book, anyone who reads it can learn a safety takeaway.

“We don’t want people to go through what we are going through, so we hope not only kids will benefit from it but the adults as well when they read it,” Boomsma said.

The book is just one way the Boomsmas are promoting farm safety while also keeping Jaxon’s spirit alive.

The family started the Jaxon Boomsma Memorial Fund after his passing. The fund contributes to community parks, farm safety programs and provides a scholarship to a Yankton High School senior who will study in an ag-related field.

Copies of Staying Safe on the Farm with Jaxon can be purchased through the group’s Facebook page for US$15.

It can also be purchased on Amazon as an e-book for US$9.22.
