New Proven Seed canola genetics from Nutrien offer enhanced clubroot resistance, harvest flexibility, and locally validated performance across Western Canada.

As disease pressure intensifies and weather conditions become increasingly unpredictable across Western Canada, crop genetics are playing a more important role in helping growers protect yield potential and maintain profitability.

Proven Seed, the proprietary seed brand of Nutrien Ag Solutions, is introducing two new canola hybrids designed to address some of the most significant production challenges facing growers today. The new offerings, scheduled for commercial launch this fall, combine improved disease resistance with traits aimed at supporting harvest management and overall crop performance.

The announcement comes as producers continue to navigate a wide range of growing conditions, from drought stress in some regions to excess moisture in others. These environmental fluctuations can increase disease risks and place greater pressure on crop management decisions throughout the season.

According to Nutrien Ag Solutions, the new hybrids are supported by one of the industry's most extensive regional canola testing programs. Proven Seed genetics are evaluated through more than 110 field-scale trials across Western Canada, alongside research conducted at 17 dedicated canola research and development sites.

The company says this extensive testing network helps provide growers with reliable regional performance data and recommendations tailored to local growing conditions.

"Our goal is to bring growers hybrids that deliver confidence in the field—from emergence through harvest. Through extensive testing across Western Canada, we identify products that help growers manage disease pressure, protect yield potential and perform consistently across a range of growing conditions," said Jennifer Dale, Canola Product Line Manager at Nutrien Ag Solutions.

"When those genetics are paired with local agronomic support, growers can make more informed seed decisions tailored to their specific region and operation."
New Canola Options Focus on Disease Resistance and Harvest Performance
Leading the launch are two new Clearfield® canola hybrids developed to help growers respond to increasing disease challenges while maintaining productivity and harvestability.

PV 281 CLCM is a next-generation Clearfield hybrid featuring multi-genic clubroot resistance. The variety also offers improved harvest management flexibility, providing growers with additional options for managing harvest timing while helping to maintain crop quality.

The second hybrid, PV 785 TCN, was developed for areas experiencing elevated disease pressure, particularly regions such as central and northern Alberta where clubroot concerns continue to grow. The hybrid combines multi-genic clubroot resistance with NTACT® Technology, a trait package designed to improve pod integrity and reduce harvest losses while supporting overall crop performance.

The introduction of these hybrids reflects the growing importance of disease resistance in canola production. Clubroot and blackleg remain ongoing concerns for producers across many canola-growing regions, making genetic resistance a critical component of long-term crop management strategies.

Supporting Market Access and Crop Rotation Goals
The company notes that Clearfield canola continues to provide important opportunities for growers seeking market flexibility. As a non-GMO production system, Clearfield varieties can provide access to specialty food and export markets while supporting crop rotation plans on many Western Canadian farms.
Combined with enhanced disease resistance and strong agronomic performance, these traits help growers balance production goals with evolving market requirements.

Extensive Local Validation Remains a Key Focus
Beyond the genetics themselves, Nutrien Ag Solutions emphasizes the value of regional trial data and local agronomic expertise in helping producers select the right hybrids for their farms.

Trial results are available through Nutrien Ag Solutions retail locations and online through Proven Seed resources, providing growers with access to performance information generated under Western Canadian growing conditions.

Growers interested in learning more about the new hybrids can visit the Proven Seed booth and demonstration plots during Ag in Motion, taking place July 21-23, 2026, near Langham, Saskatchewan, where company representatives and agronomists will be available to discuss product performance and management recommendations.
