Nortera, a North American leader in frozen and canned vegetable processing, has celebrated the $25 million expansion of its Wright Street frozen warehouse in Strathroy, Ontario.

This investment directly supports the local economy by sustaining over 270 jobs and strengthening Nortera’s partnerships with Ontario vegetable farmers.

The 100,000-square-foot expansion significantly increases Nortera’s capacity to store, process, and transport frozen vegetables across Ontario, ensuring products reach store shelves faster and more efficiently. It also reinforces Strathroy’s position as a vital hub for food production and distribution in southwestern Ontario.

“This 25-million expansion presents a significant investment in the future of Nortera and the Strathroy community,” explained Hugo Boisvert, the Chief Executive Officer of Nortera. “By increasing our capacity and efficiency, we are not only supporting local families and farmers but ensuring that Strathroy remains a key player in Ontario’s agri-food sector for decades to come.”

Nortera’s partnerships with over 200 Ontario vegetable growers help consumers find a consistent supply of high-quality, Canadian-grown and -processed vegetable products in their local grocery stores, restaurants, and institutions. The expanded facility will strengthen local and regional supply chains and bring even more of these products to Ontario families’ tables, faster.

“Congratulations to Nortera on the completion of their significant expansion of their Wright Street Property,” stated Colin Grantham, Mayor of Strathroy-Caradoc. “Agri-business is a key sector in Strathroy-Caradoc, and Nortera supports our local agriculture sector through their processing operations in our community.”

Nortera expansion:

  • The total investment in the expansion was $25 million.
  • The expansion supports 274 existing jobs at Nortera’s Strathroy warehouse and nearby processing facility, contributing to a larger workforce of nearly 1,000 employees across Nortera’s four Ontario facilities, which include three processing facilities and the newly expanded warehouse.
  • The warehouse expansion adds over 100,000 square feet, the equivalent of two football fields.
  • 8,705 pallet positions of new double-deep racking systems were installed as part of the project to improve operational efficiency.

Nortera has 13 processing plants in Canada and the United States, including three in Ontario (Strathroy, Tecumseh, and Ingersoll), and employs approximately 3,500 people. The company processes and markets over 450,000 tons of frozen and canned vegetables annually, collaborating with 800 agricultural partners, including over 200 in Ontario. Nortera produces leading private label and retail brands, including Arctic Gardens and Del Monte in Canada.
