Corteva flagship seed brand celebrates a century of leadership supporting farmers worldwide

Pioneer®, the flagship seed brand of Corteva Agriscience, has completed 100 years of service in global agriculture. The milestone was marked at the Corteva Global Seed Business Center in Johnston, Iowa, celebrating a century of innovation and farmer partnership.

Founded in 1926 by Henry A. Wallace, former Vice President of the United States, Pioneer® played a key role in transforming modern farming. The company was the first to produce hybrid corn on a large scale. This breakthrough led to a major increase in U.S. corn yields, improving food production and strengthening the farm economy.

Over the years, Pioneer has continued its focus on innovation. Today, it is the leading corn and soybean seed brand in the United States by market share. The company has also achieved world‑record yields in corn, soybeans, and dryland sorghum, reflecting its strong research and seed development programs.

“Farming is the beating heart of this country, and we could not be prouder to have worked alongside farmers for the past century to feed and fuel it,” said Executive Vice President, Seed Business, Judd O’Connor.

“Innovation has always been part of the story of agriculture – from hybrid corn in 1926 to new hybrid wheat technology today – and Pioneer, as its name suggests, has always been at the leading edge of innovation. And with tools like gene editing on the horizon, we know that after the remarkable past century, Pioneer is only just getting started,” said Judd O’Connor.

Pioneer® seeds are now sold in more than 70 countries, helping millions of farmers improve productivity. The company maintains one of the world’s largest and most diverse collections of corn germplasms, supporting the development of high‑quality and resilient crops.

Corteva leaders emphasized that innovation has always driven agricultural progress. From early hybrid corn to modern hybrid wheat and future gene‑editing tools, Pioneer® continues to invest in technologies that support sustainable farming.

The anniversary celebration also highlighted Pioneer®'s commitment to communities. As part of the event, David Wallace Douglas, grandson of the company’s founder, donated funds to support meal programs for families in need. Corteva employees helped pack over 100,000 meals for food banks in Iowa and Indiana.

During the past 30 years, Pioneer® and Corteva have invested nearly two million dollars in local community programs. These efforts reflect the company’s long‑standing belief in giving back to the people and regions it serves.
