Company strengthens rural veterinary access with major acquisition

Tractor Supply Company has acquired VIP Petcare, a leading provider of mobile veterinary services in the United States. This move strengthens the company’s pet care platform and expands access to affordable veterinary services in rural and underserved communities.

VIP Petcare operates community-based clinics at around 2,700 retail locations, including many Tractor Supply stores across 39 states. The company serves more than one million pets each year. By bringing these services in-house, Tractor Supply aims to offer more convenient and cost-effective care for pet owners.

The acquisition allows Tractor Supply to create a full-service pet care ecosystem. It combines veterinary care, pharmacy services, and retail offerings into one system. This includes integrations with its digital pharmacy platform and other pet-focused services.

"VIP Petcare has been a strong partner in helping us expand access to affordable pet care, and this acquisition builds on the unique combination of assets we have assembled across veterinary services, pet specialty, digital pharmacy and retail stores to better serve the millions of Tractor Supply customers who care for pets and animals.” said Hal Lawton, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tractor Supply.

“While continuing to support pet parents through VIP Petcare's broader retail partner network. We believe this transaction strengthens our long-term competitive positioning while leveraging existing infrastructure and customer relationships in a capital-efficient manner," said Lawton.

VIP Petcare provides preventive care through short community clinics, offering services such as vaccinations, diagnostic tests, parasite prevention, and microchipping. These services are typically offered at significantly lower costs than traditional veterinary visits, making care more accessible.

"We believe this transaction represents a great outcome for both PetIQ and Tractor Supply and an exciting next chapter for our Veterinary Services business. Tractor Supply is uniquely positioned to continue growing and investing in the Veterinary Services business, creating exciting long-term opportunities for our teams to continue delivering exceptional care to pets and families across the country," said Camillo Pane, Chief Executive Officer of PetIQ.

The company also supports a large network of veterinarians and operates thousands of clinics annually. Its services are designed for flexibility, including walk-in options and online registration.

This acquisition also supports Tractor Supply’s loyalty program by increasing customer engagement and expanding long-term growth opportunities. The company plans to use its nationwide footprint to scale veterinary services efficiently.

Tractor Supply, a leading rural lifestyle retailer, continues to invest in solutions that support animal care, livestock wellness, and rural living. This acquisition marks another step in strengthening its position in the growing pet care market.
