Students from one school honored a classmate

Parking lots at various U.S. high schools saw an influx of farm tractors and other heavy equipment in parking lots recently as part of a Future Farmers of America (FFA) initiative.

Each year local FFA chapters promote and host Drive Your Tractor to School Day to help highlight the role of agriculture in local communities.

Fremont High School in Fremont, Mich., and its local FFA , for example, had its 22nd annual event on April 2.

Students overcame wet conditions to bring equipment like a Case IH 550 Quadtrac, a Volvo A25F, and a John Deere 4430 to the school.

“Bummer about the rain. The kids powered through! Love seeing all the tractors,” Kathy Beatenhead-Roth posted on the Fremont FFA’s Facebook page.

Other schools had theirs the week before.

Students at an Ohio school had a classmate in their thoughts during the day.

Many of the participating students at Talawanda High School drove green equipment or wore green clothes to support Wyatt French, a senior recovering in hospital after a crash, as a nod to his favorite Oliver tractor.

“Wyatt is a hardworking student, somebody who absolutely has a lot of very close friends and is a very great friend to so many,” Principal Scott Davies told WLWT5.

And at least one FFA chapter is hosting its tractor day next week.

The Renville County West Chapter in Renville, Minn., will have its students drive tractors to school on April 10.

Students are asked to have their equipment at the school by 8:00 am. They will be excused at 2:15 pm to participate in a tractor parade at 2:30pm for students in elementary school.

Have you ever participated in a tractor parade or drove farm equipment to school?
