Eligible Arkansas Households Can Apply for Disaster Food Assistance

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced the approval of the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) for households in Arkansas affected by severe storms. An estimated 11,100 households in 14 Arkansas counties are eligible for this temporary food assistance to cover grocery costs as they recover from the disaster.

D-SNAP is available to individuals who may not normally qualify for SNAP but are experiencing disaster-related income loss and have qualifying expenses. It provides one month of benefits equivalent to the maximum SNAP amount for a household of their size, which can be used to buy groceries from authorized stores.

Arkansas residents in the affected counties, including Clark, Craighead, Crittenden, Greene, Hot Spring, and others, can apply for D-SNAP from July 14 to July 20, 2025. The application process will be available through in-person and telephonic methods, and more details will be provided through local media.

To qualify for D-SNAP, applicants must live or work in a designated disaster area, have been impacted by the disaster, and meet specific eligibility criteria. This temporary assistance can help meet immediate food needs as families begin to rebuild their lives after the storm.

For more information on D-SNAP, Arkansas residents can visit the Arkansas Department of Human Services website or call 2-1-1 for assistance. Additionally, households already receiving SNAP benefits in the affected areas can request additional support to increase their allotment for one month to the maximum amount.

USDA continues to work closely with Arkansas officials to ensure swift assistance to those in need, and the department has implemented additional flexibilities and waivers for farm, nutrition, and community support programs in disaster-affected regions.
