Rockwood, ONT – The Ontario 4-H Foundation announced another successful year at their recently held annual general meeting. The two golf tournaments generated $78,000, despite having to be moved from June to August. The Foundation was able to return 11.6% on investments in 2021. This return applies to all funds managed by the Foundation. The Foundation currently manages funds of over $3.5 million.
For 2022/2023, the Foundation’s executive consists of Chair Kim Turnbull of Canfield, Vice-Chair Naomi Lutes (Toronto), Secretary Stuart Budd (Paris) and Treasurer Tayler Black (Fergus). John den Haan (Loretto) remains on the Board as past-chair.
Three new Trustees were also voted in. Congratulations go to Lois James (Russell), Theresa Wever (Russell) and Valerie Allen (Prescott), who replace the retiring John Mayes and Ted Morwick. The three bring additional representation in Eastern Ontario to the Foundation. Many thanks go to Mayes and Morwick for their many years of dedication to 4-H in Ontario.
In 2008, The Foundation started an Endowment Fund for each of the 50 local associations in the province by depositing an initial $5000 (totalling a $250,000 investment) to which the counties can add to build for the future. Each year the counties can withdraw a percentage to support their local activities. The funds also act as a vehicle for further charitable donations at the local level. In 2021, nearly $125,000 was dispersed to assist in the delivery of 4-H programs.
In 2021, the Foundation provided a number of scholarships, and is excited to be adding five additional scholarships for 2022.
The goal of the Foundation has always been simple – to acquire and invest funds through endowments and donations for the long-term benefit of the 4-H Programs in Ontario.
