Become a Friend of Farmland

For two decades, OFT has played a mission-critical role in protecting Ontario’s farmland. Our momentum is stronger than ever—we’re on track to protect more properties this year than ever before. We’ve also received our first donation of farmland, with many more promising conversations underway. The demand for our services continues to grow as the mounting threats to farmland conservation have become more urgent. With farmland being lost at an alarming rate of 319 acres per day, our work is needed now more than ever.

To honour and celebrate the last 20 years, we are asking you to join us by committing to a monthly donation of $20. That’s less than $1 a day, yet it makes a world of difference to ensure we continue this vital mission. With your support, we can accelerate our farmland protection efforts, ensuring these precious lands remain productive for future generations.

Why consider a monthly donation?

  • Impactful: Your steady support enables us to plan and execute our initiatives more effectively.
  • Convenient: Manageable monthly contributions add up significantly over the year.
  • Rewarding: You will receive a tax receipt for your generous contributions, which you can use at year-end.

Together, we can save Ontario’s farmland today for a sustainable tomorrow. Your support means everything to us and to the future of our agricultural communities.

A chain harrow is a game changer

Video: A chain harrow is a game changer

Utilizing a rotational grazing method on our farmstead with our sheep helps to let the pasture/paddocks rest. We also just invested in a chain harrow to allow us to drag the paddocks our sheep just left to break up and spread their manure around, dethatch thicker grass areas, and to rough up bare dirt areas to all for a better seed to soil contact if we overseed that paddock. This was our first time really using the chain harrow besides initially testing it out. We are very impressed with the work it did and how and area that was majority dirt, could be roughed up before reseeding.

Did you know we also operate a small business on the homestead. We make homemade, handcrafted soaps, shampoo bars, hair and beard products in addition to offering our pasture raised pork, lamb, and 100% raw honey. You can find out more about our products and ingredients by visiting our website at www.mimiandpoppysplace.com. There you can shop our products and sign up for our monthly newsletter that highlights a soap or ingredient, gives monthly updates about the homestead, and also lists the markets, festivals, and events we’ll be attending that month.
