As growers get ready to make key crop decisions for the 2027 season, Nutrien Ag Solutions continues to deliver on its commitment to provide superior-quality canola seed that’s been extensively tested in diverse growing conditions across Alberta from the dryland acres of the Peace region to the irrigated fields in the province’s south.
“We want to be the most farmer-centric ag retailer in the marketplace,” says Jennifer Dale, Canola Product Line Manager at Nutrien Ag Solutions. “When growers are buying Proven Seed, they’re getting that full agronomic solution from a great group of sales agronomists in Alberta and across Western Canada. We know we have strong varieties, but we also want to make sure that farmers have the best agronomic support, whether it be with weed pressures or other challenges they may face.”
Dale says that by the time a new Proven Seed canola hybrid makes it to the marketplace, it has been rigorously tested for many years on Nutrien’s own research farms in Western Canada as well as in large-scale trials involving hundreds of Alberta farmers.
“Those large-scale trials are managed by our agronomists in real-life conditions, working with our growers to make sure that once they come through the breeding program, the varieties we’re bringing to the marketplace bring value to growers across Western Canada,” says Dale, noting that weather conditions can vary greatly from one year to the next across the region. “So we’re making sure that all of our hybrids have been trialed here in our backyard and that they’re getting exposure to real Alberta conditions so that we can see how they stand up.”
Dale is particularly excited about two new canola hybrids that will be available to producers for the first time in 2027. Both, she says, are designed to fill gaps in the Western Canadian marketplace.
