Conveyor goes pink to support breast cancer awareness

Ag Growth International (AGI), Canada’s largest exporter of agri-food products, has released a pink limited-edition conveyor during October Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Paul Brisebois, AGI Senior Vice President, Canada-Farm, said producers can bid on the fully loaded, one-of-a-kind UCX³ U-trough belt conveyor with the proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS).

“We are proud to do what AGI does best – manufacturing equipment that supports the journey of crops from harvest to feed for animals and food for people – to support this important cause, that affects the well-being of rural and urban families, alike,” Brisebois said.

AGI’s Swift Current manufacturing team came up with the idea for the campaign. Tom Firth, AGI Swift Current General Manager said it’s a great match-up.

“Just like how AGI is ‘right there for farmers’ with industry-leading grain storage, handling and conditioning solutions, the Canadian Cancer Society is ‘right there for Canadians’ to champion world-leading outcomes in cancer prevention, treatment and support,” Firth said. “The breast cancer awareness conveyor is our unique way of supporting this worthwhile cause. And that benefits everyone from farm to table.

Rodger Lohman, CCS Supporter Engagement Specialist, said his organization is beyond grateful for AGI’s support and commitment to make a difference in the lives of people affected by breast cancer.

“Fundraisers like this enable CCS to continue pushing the boundaries of breast cancer treatment and change the future of breast cancer,” Lohman said. “Since its peak in 1986, the breast cancer death rate has been nearly cut in half, and today, the 5-year survival rate continues to improve. We could not achieve this kind of progress and bring hope without the generosity of people and communities coming together.”

AGI’s campaign serves a dual purpose. While funds raised will go directly to CCS, the UCX³ belt conveyor, also, will benefit a farm operation. The conveyor moves more commodities in less time with low impact to protect grain quality and seed germination performance. The pink conveyor up for bid can move up to 12,000 bushels per hour. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $87,156 CAD.

AGI offers two ways to participate in Conveyor for a Cause. Now through Oct. 31 farmers can submit their bids for the limited-edition conveyor or the public can make a donation.

AGI will announce the winning bid in November.

Gowan Canada is partnering with Geco Strategic Weed Management to help Canadian growers take a strategic approach to weed control through data-driven prediction and planning.

Geco’s technology uses data and AI to map where weeds have been over the past five years and predict where patches are likely to emerge next season. These insights allow farms and retailers to plan ahead and target actions in the most challenging areas.

“Our technology enables the question: if you could know where your most problematic patches are and where they are spreading to, what could you do differently? That’s what our technology makes possible,” said Greg Stewart, CEO of Geco. “Many of our farms are already using our prescriptions along with Gowan products, so this collaboration is a natural next step.”
