Corn Crop Update

Corn growers are welcoming the rain in many parts of the province this week.

Morgan Cott is an Agronomy Extension Specialist with the Manitoba Crop Alliance.

"The crop is looking good in areas and struggling in other areas," she commented. "The dry soil is really starting to affect some fields. I'm noticing some curling up plants, their colours changing just a little bit. They are getting a little bit more pale and bluish rather than green. The rain certainly will have helped."

Cott says generally the corn crop is at the V2 stage.

She notes cutworms have been spotted but nothing major. Disease is not a concern at this time of year.
