Faba Bean Feed Benchmark Report

Wheat and barley have softened in Alberta while maintaining prices from the previous 2 weeks in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. DDGS is starting to drop and there was a recent drop in soybean meal although the weakened Canadian dollar today that resulted from the lack of interest rate movement yesterday firmed prices a little. Feed peas have continued to drop in price across the prairies – by about $5 per tonne from the previous period. The outlook is that it may continue to soften.

AB: $322
SK: $316
MB: $308
* Models have been updated to reflect the latest nutrient compositions of feed ingredients, which is done periodically.

Video: What I’m Checking Behind the Planter This Spring

This is the first episode of a new behind-the-scenes series on our farm.

Today I’m checking behind the planter looking at planting depth, seed-to-soil contact, and making sure we’re placing seed into moisture, even in a dry spring.

Everything can look good from the cab, but this is where you find out what’s really happening.

We also ran into a prescription issue that slowed us down, which is a good reminder that even when conditions are ideal, the little things still matter.

If you’re planting right now, it’s worth taking a few minutes to check behind your planter.
