John Deere Easy Change™ 30-Second Oil Change System Honored with 2018 Popular Science Best of What’s New Award

CARY, N.C. — Popular Science recognized the John Deere Easy Change™ 30-Second Oil Change System with a 2018 Best of What's New Award in the home category. A presitigious annual competition, The Best of What’s New Awards highlights products or technologies that represent a significant step forward in 10 categories, including Automotive, Entertainment, Gadgets, Health, Home, Recreation, and Software.

The John Deere Easy Change 30-Second Oil Change System was introduced in February 2018 and designed to make changing the engine oil on select lawn tractors easy, quick, and clean. With this system, owners of E120, E130, E150, E160, E170 and E180 models can change oil by twisting on a new cartridge that contains both the oil and the filter, eliminating the need to drain the oil . Changing the filter removes the captured contaminants and replaces about 0.8 qt (0.76 L) of the engine oil. Compared to the traditional 100 Series oil system, the Easy Change system runs 22 °F cooler, increases filtering capacity, eliminates oil change spills, and passes the same rigorous engine testing.

Kirk Eisenbeis, product marketing manager for John Deere, explains that changing the oil in a lawn tractor is one of the most important maintenance steps, and the Easy Change system was designed to streamline this process and empower customers to take maintenance in their own hands.

"When designing this, our priority was to provide an easy and hassle-free experience for maintenance," said Eisenbeis. "The Easy Change system is appealing to people who have little experience with oil changes, and to others who want to make oil changes fast and mess-free," he added.

Popular Science Editor-in-Chief Joe Brown explained the honor this award brings to products each year. "The Best of What's New Awards allow us the chance to examine and honor the best innovations of the year. This collection shapes our future, helps us be more efficient, keeps us healthy and safe, and lets us have some fun along the way."

Video: A Farm Song (Busy) | Parody of A Bar Song (Tipsy) by Shaboozey

Lyrics:

My days begin with workin’, Alarm’s at 5 o’clock,
I Fill 5 gallon buckets, The feeders and the troughs,
This five to nine ain’t workin’, why the heck do I work so hard?,
I can’t worry ‘bout health problems, I can sleep in when I’m gone,

One, here comes the two to the three to the four,
Tell em’ ‘buy another cow, we need plenty more’,
Blue jeans are gettin’ dirty, what else could I ask for,
Oh my, more chores

Someone pour me up another shot of sweet tea,
They know me and working hard’s got a history,
There’s another flock of sheep that still needs feed,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,

Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,

I’ve been working pretty stressed but,
I ain’t changing for some cash,
Lord knows that I’m very blessed (More chores),
But I gotta say it’s hard,
Workin’ outside gettin’ charred,
Living out here on the farm, (more chores)

One, here comes the two to the three to the four,
Tell em’ ‘buy another cow, we need plenty more’,
Blue jeans are gettin’ dirty, what else could I ask for,
Oh my, more chores

Someone pour me up another shot of sweet tea,
They know me and working hard’s got a history
There’s another 20 chickens that still need feed,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,

Everybody on the farm getting’ busy,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,

Fun, here on ranch that’s what you can’t ignore,
Might be pretty hard but I love it to its core,
Flannel’s gettin’ dirty, what else could I ask for,
Oh my, more chores (Tell ‘em sing with me)

Someone pour me up another shot of sweet tea,
They know me and working hard’s got a history,
There’s another flock of sheep that still needs feed,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
Someone pour me up another shot of sweet tea,
They know me and working hard’s got a history,
Watching cattle in the dark, don’t miss me,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
(Yeeeeeehaw)
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
It’s the best bro, go get yourself a farm
