New John Deere 4045SFM85 marine engine now shipping

WATERLOO, Iowa  — John Deere Power Systems is now shipping the new PowerTech™ 4045SFM85 marine engine to boat owners and builders. Its high power-to-weight ratio delivers impressive torque in a compact engine package, making it an ideal choice for planing and semi-displacement hulls.

The new 4045SFM85 marine engine has two ratings — an M4 rating with 205 kW (275 hp) at 2600 rpm and M5 rating with 235 kW (315 hp) at 2800 rpm. These ratings are ideal for light-duty commercial vessels, high-speed governmental applications and high-speed pleasure crafts. Both the M4 and M5 ratings are applicable to commercial and recreational applications.

Field tested, operator approved

Thorough sea trials for the 4045SFM85 were conducted with an integrated team of John Deere marine application engineers, engine distributors and marine dealers. "The sea trials offered us the opportunity to evaluate the installation and performance of the 4045S in varied boating applications with an M4 or M5 rating," said Mike Van Donsel, senior marine application engineer. John Deere partnered with end-users to gather data from a bow picker, crabber, dive boat and recreational vessel.

Mark Milbourne repowered his recreational vessel with the 4045SFM85. "The new 4.5-liter is going to be a really good product for both commercial and recreational boat owners wanting good fuel economy and higher speeds," he said.

"The 4045SFM85 is lighter and about half the size of my old engine, but it packs some power for its size," said Donald Haught, a lifelong commercial fisherman. "I've calculated that it consumes about 19 liters (5 gallons) of fuel per hour — almost half as much as my previous engine. That's a great cost savings for my business."

Certified and ready to run

The 4045SFM85 engine ratings meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Marine Tier 3 and Recreational Craft Directive II emissions regulations, as well as International Maritime Organization Tier II standards for commercial and recreational applications. To date, this is the only known ABS-certified, 315 hp, 4-cylinder in-board diesel engine that will be type approved by the American Bureau of Shipping, DNV GL, Lloyd's Register and Bureau Veritas.

All John Deere marine power solutions are available through authorized John Deere marine engine distributors and marine dealers.

After a week of a U.S./China trade truce, markets/trade is skeptical that we have not seen a signed agreement nor heard much from China or seen any details. There are rumors that China is buying soybean futures & not the physical. Trust in Trump?
12 MMT of U.S. soybean purchases by China by year-end is better than 0 but we all need to give it more time and give it a chance to unfold. China did lower the tariffs on Ag and is buying U.S. wheat and sorghum.

U.S. government shutdown is now the longest in history at 38 days.
But despite a U.S. government shutdown we will be getting a USDA November crop report next Friday and it could be “game changing.” If the USDA provides a bullish surprise with lower U.S. corn and soybean yields and ending stocks that are lower than expected both corn and soybean futures will break out above their ceilings at $4.35/bu and $11.35/bu respectively.
The funds continued their selling in live and feeder cattle futures on continued fears that the Trump administration want to lower U.S. beef prices. The fundamentals have not changed, only market psychology has.
