Farmer Pleased With Amount Of Rain

With the recent rainfall in Portage la Prairie, farmers are starting to see their crops take shape.

Storms have been rolling through over the weekend leading to rain. Craig Finnie of Finnie and Wishart Farms LTD talks about the rain they got.

"We needed some rain all right. I think what we got is adequate," says Finnie. "It (The rain) varied from field to field. I've got some rain gauges out and its all the way from 2 and a half inches to 3 quarters of an inch."

The rain is essential to helping crops fill. Finnie explains that when the seeds of the crop are forming if they don't get enough moisture the head of the plant doesn't fill with seeds and grow, this leads to fewer bushels harvested. Finnie adds what the weather needs to do in order to have a good crop.
