Young Ag Champions Earn Top Honours
Saskatchewan has honoured four outstanding students for their dedication to agriculture with the Agriculture Student Scholarship. These scholarships support post-secondary students who demonstrate a strong passion for agriculture and advocate for industry’s future.
This year’s grand prize of $6,000 was awarded to Abbey Norek. Her winning video highlighted the disconnect between urban and rural communities regarding farming. Abbey proposed that education and advocacy are key to bridging this gap. She also shared her personal efforts, such as building a school garden using recycled materials, leading farm outreach programs, and lobbying for agriculture electives in her school division.
“What it really comes down to is education and spreading awareness about what farming is really like so more people can build trust in it. Hopefully more young people want to come into this amazing industry” said Abbey Norek, grand prize winner, Agriculture Student Scholarship.
Three additional students—Noah Skoropad from Chamberlin, Rebecca Mayerle from Tisdale, and Ty Annand from Nipawin—were each awarded $3,000 scholarships. All recipients will attend the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Agriculture and Bioresources in the fall to pursue Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degrees.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients” said Daryl Harrison, Saskatchewan Minister of Agriculture.
These scholarships not only recognize academic excellence but also celebrate students who are actively shaping the future of agriculture through hands-on work and community involvement.
