Harvest Still Delayed After Heavy Rains

Normally at this time of year, 28 percent of the crop is in the bin but weather delays are now seeing only 11 percent of harvest completed. That's up six percent from last week but it's well behind the five-year average.

Weather continues to delay progress for producers in the province, and farmers would welcome a stretch of warm, dry weather.

According to the latest crop report from the province, 16 percent of the crop is now swathed or ready to straight-cut. 20 percent of the crop has now been combined in the southwest, which is the best in the province.

75 percent of fall rye, 64 percent of winter wheat, 47 percent of field peas and 39 percent of lentils are in the bin. Also, 12 percent of barley and five percent of canola is done.

Most crop damage in the province over the last week has been due to localized flooding, strong winds, light frost and hail.
