Have a Gourd Time by Voting in the Fall Harvest Display Contest

Consumers can help choose the next Foodland Ontario Consumers’ Choice Award Winner

The Ontario government is encouraging shoppers to choose the best seasonal fall harvest display for the 2019 Foodland Ontario Consumers' Choice Award. For the first time in more than 30 years, Ontario shoppers can vote for their favourite display of fresh Ontario squash, pumpkins, potatoes and carrots.

"Ontario's fall harvest celebrates the bounty of good things that grow in Ontario," said Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. "This is a fun and unique way to show community spirit, encourage our farmers and support our local grocery stores who take pride in displaying and retailing Ontario grown produce."

Consumers can vote by following Foodland Ontario on Instagram or Facebook and "liking" one of the top three grocery store display finalists. The Ontario fall harvest display that receives the most "likes" or votes will receive the Consumers' Choice Award.

"Ontario's fruit and vegetable farmers appreciate the efforts of retailers to promote locally grown produce," said Bill George, Chair, Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers' Association. "I encourage consumers to look for the Foodland Ontario logo at their favourite grocery retailer to identify Ontario-grown produce, some of which is available in stores year-round."

For more than 30 years, the Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards have been the produce industry's premier competition for excellence in grocery store display and promotion in support of local Ontario foods.
