Loblaw, Ducks Unlimited partner on programs

REGINA — Loblaw is contributing $400,000 this year to Ducks Unlimited Canada’s sustainable agriculture programs.

The two organizations said a new partnership, building on a collaboration that began last year, will advance sustainable food systems and support Canadian farmers.

DUC’s corporate communications specialist, Rob Cornforth, said in an email the money supports programs also known as the farmgate programs, including the Marginal Areas Program, perennial restoration and conservation and forage conversion.

The winter cereals initiatives will also benefit.

Loblaw staff will be able to get involved in conservation efforts and learn about resilient food systems.

“Loblaw’s support helps DUC work directly with farmers to improve poor-producing land, plant perennial cover and use farming practices that build healthier soil, support wildlife, and strengthen farms for the long term,” the statement said.

“Ultimately Loblaw’s support accelerates conservation efforts that keep working lands productive, improve environmental outcomes and strengthen the overall resilience of Canada’s agricultural landscapes.”
