Manitoba Government Discusses Wetland Protection In Climate and Green Plan

Ducks Unlimited Canada is encouraged by what it saw in the Manitoba government's Climate and Green Plan released last week.

Director of Regional Operations Scott Stephens says enhanced protection for wetlands was good to see.

"We had been engaged in the consultation process throughout the time period that was going on too and we were actually pretty pleased with what we saw actually roll out in the Green Plan. There was some language around some enhanced protection for wetlands that we had been asking for."

Stephens notes that by conserving wetlands, farmers will benefit from better water management and flood mitigation.

“In 2014, agricultural losses due to flooding included 3.5 million acres (1.4 million hectares) of unseeded land or lost crops. The estimated cost to the Manitoba economy was in excess of $1 billion...Conserving wetlands makes the environment more resilient against these kinds of extreme weather events.”

Video: What Is Remote Sensing In Precision Agriculture? - The World of Agriculture

What Is Remote Sensing In Precision Agriculture? In this informative video, we will dive into the fascinating world of remote sensing and its role in precision agriculture. Remote sensing technology allows farmers to gather critical information about their fields without the need for physical presence. By utilizing satellites, drones, and aircraft equipped with advanced sensors, farmers can monitor various aspects of their crops, from temperature and moisture levels to overall plant health.

We will explore how the data collected through remote sensing can empower farmers to make strategic decisions for their crops. With the ability to identify specific areas that require more water or nutrients, farmers can optimize resource usage, leading to healthier plants and improved yields.

Moreover, remote sensing plays a vital role in tracking crop growth over time. By comparing images taken at different growth stages, farmers can evaluate their crops’ development and adjust their management practices accordingly.
