Manitoba NDP Makes COVID-19 Recommendations For Ag Sector

The Manitoba NDP is calling on the government to implement a number of measures to help farmers deal with the impact of COVID-19.

Opposition Leader Wab Kinew would like to see $100,000 interest free loans for farmers to cover the cost of inputs.

He's also calling on the province to work with farmers and local business to strengthen direct-to-consumer marketing.

Other recommendations being made by the NDP include supporting producers in hiring local people who have lost their job due to COVID-19, reviewing MELT class 1 licenses, helping producers implement physical distance training for their workers, and working with beef producers to ensure supply chains continue throughout the pandemic and avoid market value losses.
