Market Pressures Not Affecting Crop Choices

It's a busy time of year for local farmers as they're spending most of their days in their seeders putting in this year's crops.
 
Vulcan County's Agricultural Services Director, Kelly Malmberg, says area farmers are sticking the four basic crops they put in every year.
 
"Wheat's going in, barley's going in, pea's are going in and canola's going in. Maybe a little less canola because of the dry years. But right now, the County, unless the west winds keep up, we've got pretty good moisture conditions for seeding."
 
Malmberg says the markets, particularly because of trade issues with China and India, haven't really turned out to be as bad as some might has predicted, meaning Foothills farmers haven't had to make any drastic decisions about what to plant this year.
