More Soybeans, Dry Beans, Sunflowers Confirmed In Crop Insurance Numbers

Crop insurance data has confirmed Manitoba farmers planted more soybeans, dry beans and sunflowers this year.

The number of wheat, oat, barley, corn and potato acres declined.

With just over 97 percent of seeded acreage reports from insured farmers entered into its database, the Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation says the number of acres too-wet-to-seed was more than four times higher than in 2013, coming in at a projected 980 thousand.

Red spring wheat was likely sown to almost 2.2 million acres in Manitoba this spring. Canola acreage likely declined slightly to just under 3.1 million acres, while soybean area grew to over 1.3 million acres.
