Poll Shows Voters Favors Cotton Amendment

A flash poll released July 10 showed support from Alabama voters on Amendment 1 is outpacing opposition. The amendment involves the state cotton checkoff and will be on the July 15 primary runoff ballot.



According to the poll, 32 percent of likely voters will support Amendment 1, while only 23 percent are against the measure. Forty-four percent of voters were undecided.

“It’s encouraging to see these poll numbers and to know voters understand the importance of allowing cotton farmers to make a decision about their own industry,” said Alabama Farmers Federation Cotton Division Director Carla Hornady.

If the measure is passed, Alabama cotton farmers would then hold their own referendum to decide if the current voluntary checkoff should become automatic. The state cotton checkoff funds cotton research, educational and promotional activities.
