Potential mail interruptions loom; AFSC moves to alternate delivery methods

Canada may be facing a postal strike or lockout later this week. Negotiations between Canada Post and members of Canadian Union of Postal Workers continue; however, a strike or lockout could occur as early as November 3.

If a strike or lockout does occur, mail in transit becomes the property of Canada Post and cannot be recovered during the interruption. October 29 is the last day to be sure of service through Canada Post.

To ensure clients receive mail from AFSC in a timely manner, we will be using alternative delivery methods starting October 29.

We are contacting clients who receive payments by mail, and who are in a claim or potential claim position, to arrange alternative delivery. If you haven’t already signed up for direct deposit, this may be a good time to consider making the switch. More information on switching to direct deposit is available in Receiving a payment from AFSC by direct deposit.

Clients who receive their lending statements by mail may also be worried about potential postal disruptions. To avoid disruptions in your statements, this might be a great time to consider signing up for online statements. If you already have an AFSC Connect account, follow these few simple steps in our Accessing your lending information online step-by-step guide.

If you haven’t signed up for AFSC Connect before, signing up is simple and easy. After a few steps, you will be able to access your information at your convenience. Create your AFSC Connect account today with our step-by-step guide Creating an AFSC Connect account.

For any upcoming loan payments not set up on pre-authorized debit (automatic payments), contact your preferred branch office to make other arrangements or pay through online banking. This may be a great time to consider setting up an automatic payment to avoid late payments or extra interest.
