Purdue Webinar to Help Farmers With Crop Insurance decisions

Purdue University's Center for Commercial Agriculture will host a webinar Thursday (March 6) to help farmers make last-minute decisions about crop insurance for the 2014 growing season.

The deadline for farmers to buy crop insurance or modify their policies is March 15.

The free webinar starts at 2 p.m. (EST) and will include presentations by three Purdue Extension experts who will not only cover crop insurance for 2014 but also changes the new farm bill will offer in the future.

Crop insurance topics will include revenue protection and yield protection products, crop insurance units and guarantees. Farm bill topics will include information about Price Loss Coverage (PLC) and Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC), which likely will be available for the 2015 growing season.

Webinar presenters:

* Michael Langemeier, associate director for the Center for Commercial Agriculture and clinical engagement professor of agricultural economics.

* Roman Keeney, associate professor of agricultural economics.

* Jim Mintert, assistant director of Purdue Extension for agriculture and natural resources and professor of agricultural economics.

The webinar will run about 40 minutes, and there will be a 20-minute question-and-answer session at the end. Questions can be submitted during the webinar via email to Mintert at jmintert@purdue.edu.

Participants can register for the webinar and find more information on the Center for Commercial Agriculture website at https://www.agecon.purdue.edu/commercialag/ under "What's new at the center."

The webinar will be archived for those unable to watch it live. The archived version also will be available on the center's website.
