Heavy rain and snow this week will cause harvest delays across Saskatchewan.
Levi Wood, president of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers, farms west of Regina at Pense.
He has some canola and durum still to harvest.
He says the weather will slow down combining.
He says the days are getting shorter and it will take a lot of time for the crop to dry out.
As well, he says the rain and snow will cause quality issues.
Wood says the weather increases the chance of swathed canola shattering.
As well, there are possibilities of sprouting.
And, he is concerned about bleaching in wheat crops.
In standing crops, he says fields are flattened by snow, making harvest slow and difficult.
He believes fields will need several days of warm dry weather before combining can resume.
