Egg Prices Fall Trade Expands and Farmers Gain Direct USDA Aid

Brooke Rollins, in her first 100 days as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, has focused on helping farmers and revitalizing rural America. She introduced a five-point plan to control avian flu and bring down egg prices. Since then, egg prices have dropped 56%, easing pressure on both farmers and families.

To boost agricultural trade, Secretary Rollins committed to visiting six global markets within six months. This action comes as the U.S. faces a $50 billion trade deficit. Her goal is to expand exports, ensure fair trade, and grow income for American farmers.

In a key development, Rollins secured an agreement with the Mexican government to deliver water to Texas farmers under the 1944 Water Treaty. Mexico will release water from its reservoirs and increase the U.S. share of flow in six Rio Grande tributaries.

Marking National Agriculture Day, Rollins also announced the Emergency Commodity Assistance Program (ECAP), with $10 billion in aid for the 2024 crop year. The funds will be used to offset rising costs and market challenges and are being delivered swiftly by the USDA’s Farm Service Agency.
