Slow developing NAFTA talks frustrating Canadian farm organizations

The President of Grain Growers of Canada is expressing frustration regarding the current state of NAFTA trade talks.

Jeff Nielsen was Montreal this past week for the talks and from his view on the sidelines, he’s seeing very limited progress.

He says a number of U.S. farmers were also traveled to the Quebec metropolis to tout the benefits of the agreement.

Despite the lack of progress and positive signals, Neilsen remains hopeful a new deal can be reached.

“The feeling I get is the Trump administration is taking some time,” he said. “The information getting back to the president is positive on the fact trade is so important to the rural economy of America.”

“And I think that message is getting through to the grassroots in the States.”
