U.S. team engages Saudi feed sector to support grain nutrition

U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC) representatives traveled to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to strengthen agricultural partnerships and support the region’s growing feed and livestock sector. The focus of the visit was to promote U.S. corn, sorghum and valuable corn co-products, including corn-fermented protein (CFP) and distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS).

The delegation met with leading poultry, dairy and livestock producers in major cities, including Dammam, Riyadh and Jeddah. They visited grain warehouses and feed mills to better understand marketplace needs and environmental challenges. In particular, storage conditions were highlighted as a key issue because Saudi Arabia’s intense heat and humidity can lead to grain shrinkage and sanitation problems. Companies such as the Arabian Agricultural Services Company (ARASCO) have invested in modern port storage facilities, but ongoing climate pressures remain an obstacle.

During a conference in Riyadh, U.S. experts shared best practices for grain storage and explained how co-products like DDGS and CFP can support efficient animal diets. These ingredients offer strong nutritional benefits and can help poultry and dairy producers maintain productivity while managing feed costs.

The Council also identified increased potential for U.S. sorghum in Saudi feed markets due to its competitive pricing and quality. As Saudi Arabia moves closer to full poultry production self-sufficiency, the need for reliable grain supply is expected to grow.

The visit encouraged active discussion between Saudi grain buyers and U.S. agribusiness members. Industry leaders expressed interest in continued collaboration to support long-term feed supply stability. The Council plans to organize more events in the region to promote U.S. agricultural products and strengthen business connections.

Video: What Is Remote Sensing In Precision Agriculture? - The World of Agriculture

What Is Remote Sensing In Precision Agriculture? In this informative video, we will dive into the fascinating world of remote sensing and its role in precision agriculture. Remote sensing technology allows farmers to gather critical information about their fields without the need for physical presence. By utilizing satellites, drones, and aircraft equipped with advanced sensors, farmers can monitor various aspects of their crops, from temperature and moisture levels to overall plant health.

We will explore how the data collected through remote sensing can empower farmers to make strategic decisions for their crops. With the ability to identify specific areas that require more water or nutrients, farmers can optimize resource usage, leading to healthier plants and improved yields.

Moreover, remote sensing plays a vital role in tracking crop growth over time. By comparing images taken at different growth stages, farmers can evaluate their crops’ development and adjust their management practices accordingly.
