Swathing or Desiccating Faba Bean

Faba bean acreage is estimated to be about 80,000 acres this year, a jump of 165 per cent. As a result, there are a lot of inexperienced faba bean growers in the province, who are thinking about what to do with the crop in terms of drying it down. Clifford Cyre, with Cyre Seeds Farms, has been growing faba bean for many years and our Caitlynn Reesor gave him a call to get his thoughts on swathing faba bean or desiccating faba bean.

Interview with Clifford Cyre (3:59 minutes) (1.83 Mb)

Cyre says growers should start combining at 16 per cent moisture, because that’s considered dry for faba bean.
