We are still waiting on a decision from the Canada Industrial Relations Board regarding Ottawa's request to consider whether the movement of certain specific commodities, including grain, if it were to be halted due to a labour disruption would affect the health and safety of Canadians.
A potential rail strike involving both CN and CPKC is looming with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference, which represents about 9300 workers, including 6000 conductors, locomotive engineers, and yard workers with CN and 3200 conductors, locomotive engineers, and yard workers at CPKC, as well as the 90 rail traffic controllers with CPKC.
CN's Assistant VP of Grain, David Przednowek, says the timelines around the submission of documents to the CIRB was extended to June 14th.
In the meantime, CN Rail made an offer to the union to go to binding arbitration, however, it was rejected by the union.
