Weather Outlook For 2020

Farmers received a 2020 weather outlook this week at St. Jean Farm Days.

Scott Kehler is the Chief Scientist with WeatherLogics.

"In the long range, from late spring through the summer part of the growing season, we're anticipating that rainfall will be above normal but unlike last year, it probably isn't going to fall all in one event," he said. "It will be a little bit more distributed across the growing season. Temperature-wise, it will probably be fairly similar to last year, with fairly normal temperatures, not a huge departure above or below normal for the growing season as whole."

Kehler isn't expecting to see a lot of snow over the rest of the winter, noting the northern U.S. has received a lot more snow than southern Manitoba which could create some flood concerns. We could see more precipitation come early spring.

He notes the cold weather will likely stick around for a good part of January with colder temps expected for the next couple of weeks.

Kehler says soil moisture is definitely going to be high going into spring.
