Western Beef Development Centre Holds 17th Annual Field Day

The Western Beef Development Centre will have their 17th annual Field Day on Tuesday.

Dr. Bart Lardner at the Centre says they've found that the face-to-face workshops offered at the field day have been very important for producers.

"Even the younger producers like to come and see, kick the tires, hear speakers and disseminate the information and then look at what would work for their operation. Versus reading it online or reading it on the internet, they like to come and see and show, and possibly look at what idea would help them on their farm or operation and hopefully improve the bottom line."

He says their theme this year is "Practices to Prevail in a Changing Industry."

"We know forages are the backbone of the beef industry, and so we have a guest speaker, Jim Garesh is coming in to talk about grazing management, really which is the keynote speaker for the day. Kathy Larson, our beef economist will talk about some of the results of the cow/calf survey and as well, the Ministry of Ag will talk about the 21 day calving challenge."
