Canadian Cattle and Bovine Genetics Back on Panama's Market

Ottawa, Ontario -- Canadian producers and exporters will benefit from full market access as Panama announced the re-opening of its market to Canadian breeding cattle and expanding market access to bovine genetics. The announcement was made today by Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and International Trade Minister Peter Van Loan.

"We know that Canadian producers raise the highest quality cattle and produce the best dairy genetics in the world," said Minister Ritz. "Market by market, we are creating more opportunities for farmers to benefit from expanded sales to more consumers around the world."

"The Government of Canada is pleased with Panama's decision to re-open its market to Canadian cattle exports," said Minister Van Loan. "This is great news for Canada's cattle industry. Our government will continue to work to ensure full access to important markets around the world for Canadian producers."

In 2009, the value of Canadian agriculture and food exports to Panama was $23.5 million. Canada and Panama signed a free trade agreement last May 14. Once implemented, the agreement will open doors to Canadian farmers and exporters with improved market access, bringing benefits to a wide range of sectors, including agriculture and agri-food.

Dr. Jessica Risser, a senior technical consultant with the Elanco Swine Business Unit, recently spoke to The Pig Site’s Sarah Mikesell at the 2023 World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa, USA.

“We've really worked on our portfolio this year and added quite a bit to it,” said Risser. “The first thing is Increxxa 25, which is a new addition to the portfolio. “

Elanco already had the Increxxa 100 milligram and now it has added Increxxa 25 which is an added benefit for producers. It is another injectable antibiotic with a different formulation that makes it easier for the producer to administer to younger pigs.
