Pork Producers Invited to Two-State Swine Seminar

OKOBOJI, Iowa -- Pork producers in northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota are invited to attend the Swine Production Seminar March 10 in Okoboji. Iowa State University (ISU) Extension, University of Minnesota Extension and Hubbard Feeds are sponsoring the seminar for the second year.

ISU Extension swine program specialist Dave Stender said the seminar will provide attendees with timely and important information. “Presenters will share their knowledge and expertise in a variety of areas including nutrition, heard health and risk management,” Stender said. “In addition to the hour-long presentations, there will be a group observation and discussion session so those attending can provide input.”

Three morning sessions will include successful management of PRRS, nutrition and operation efficiencies and the affect of DDGS on meat and fat quality. After lunch, attendees will hear about managing risk in volatile markets and transitioning new leaders. Speakers include Mark FitzSimmons of Protein Sources Management, Ernie Hansen and Tom Koch of Hubbard Feeds, Dave Ward of Commodity & Ingredient Hedging LLC and Stender of ISU Extension.

The seminar will be held at Arrowwood Resort Conference Center, 1405 Highway 71, Okoboji. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. with the program starting at 10 a.m. Preregistration is not required.
