USDA: Weekly Export Sales Highlights

Wheat:  Net sales of 344,400 MT for the 2011/12 marketing year were down 34 percent from the previous week and 36 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were primarily for Indonesia (116,600 MT, including 61,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and 29,000 MT switched from Singapore), Mexico (104,000 MT), South Korea (91,800 MT), South Africa (45,000 MT), Nigeria (34,400 MT), and Brazil (30,000 MT, including 25,000 MT switched from unknown destinations).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (53,300 MT), Iraq (51,400 MT), and Singapore (29,000 MT).  Net sales of 59,100 MT for delivery in 2011/2012 were reported for Mexico.  Exports of 483,900 MT were down 16 percent from the previous week and 21 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were mainly to Nigeria (145,000 MT), Iraq (82,700 MT), Peru (53,400 MT), Taiwan (40,400 MT), Indonesia (39,900 MT), Mexico (32,000 MT), and South Korea (25,300 MT).

Corn:  Net sales of 428,700 MT were down 11 percent from the previous week and 22 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for South Korea (66,100 MT, including 21,200 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 4,700 MT), Venezuela (65,500 MT), Japan (60,600 MT), Egypt (60,000 MT), Mexico (39,700 MT), and El Salvador (23,200 MT, including 11,900 MT switched from unknown destinations, 9,000 MT switched from Guatemala, and decreases of 100 MT).  Decreases were reported for Honduras (1,400 MT) and the French West Indies (1,100 MT).  Net sales of 472,800 MT for delivery in 2011/2012 were mainly reported for unknown destinations (252,700 MT), South Korea (110,000 MT), and Japan (66,300 MT).  Exports of 925,800 MT were up 8 percent from the previous week, but down 1 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were South Korea (275,100 MT), Japan (199,700 MT), Mexico (147,000 MT), the Dominican Republic (55,100 MT), Venezuela (40,000 MT), and Israel (36,300 MT).  

Barley:   Net sales of 25,000 MT were switched from France to unknown destinations.  There were no exports reported during the week.

Sorghum:  Net sales of 14,200 MT were for Mexico.  Exports of 77,300 MT were to Mexico.

Rice:  Net sales of 57,400 MT were down 1 percent from the previous week and 26 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (25,100 MT), Ghana (12,000 MT), Honduras (8,600 MT), Saudi Arabia (5,500 MT), and El Salvador (4,000 MT).  Decreases were reported for Japan (1,000 MT) and Panama (600 MT).  Exports of 57,100 MT were down 7 percent from the previous week and 33 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Panama (24,000 MT), Japan (12,400 MT), Mexico (7,000 MT), El Salvador (3,900 MT), and Saudi Arabia (2,300 MT).

Soybeans:  Net sales of 257,000 MT were primarily for unknown destinations (77,500 MT), China (55,000 MT), Malaysia (25,200 MT, switched from unknown destinations), Mexico (20,900 MT), and Syria (18,000 MT).  Net sales of 188,900 MT for delivery in 2011/2012 were mainly reported for China (120,000 MT) and Indonesia (66,000 MT).  Exports of 135,800 MT were down 44 percent from the previous week and 26 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were primarily to Mexico (67,400 MT), Malaysia (25,200 MT), Japan (23,200 MT), Taiwan (7,400 MT), and Vietnam (5,000 MT).

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 116,800 MT were up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for the Philippines (40,800 MT), Ecuador (31,600 MT, including 30,600 MT switched from Colombia), Canada (19,300 MT), Morocco (18,000 MT), and Mexico (12,300 MT), were partially offset by decreases for Colombia (30,600 MT), unknown destinations (3,600 MT), Nicaragua (2,000 MT), and the French West Indies (1,900 MT).  Net sales of 138,100 MT for delivery in 2011/2012 were reported for Canada.  Exports of 135,100 MT were up 75 percent from the previous week and 32 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Ecuador (31,600 MT), Venezuela (20,000 MT), Canada (19,100 MT), El Salvador (11,700 MT), and the Dominican Republic (10,700 MT). 

Soybean Oil:  Net sales of 19,000 MT were up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Morocco (15,000 MT), Trinidad (3,000 MT) and Mexico (1,000 MT), were partially offset by decreases for Canada (200 MT).  Exports of 9,000 MT were up noticeably from the previous week, but down 27 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Trinidad (3,100 MT), Mexico (2,700 MT), Canada (2,000 MT), and Australia (500 MT).

Cotton:  Net Upland sales reductions of 6,800 RB resulted as increases for Mexico (10,100 RB), Taiwan (900 RB), unknown destinations (400 RB), and Thailand (400 RB, including 300 RB switched from unknown destinations), were more than offset by decreases for Indonesia (4,700 RB), China (4,600 RB), South Korea (4,300 RB), Turkey (3,000 RB), Morocco (1,100 RB), and Japan (1,100 RB).  Net sales of 31,200 RB for delivery in 2011/2012 resulted as increases for China (32,300 RB), Guatemala (2,400 RB), and Thailand (1,100 RB), were partially offset by decreases for South Korea (2,100 RB), Pakistan (1,400 RB), Turkey (1,400 RB), and Indonesia (1,100 RB).  Exports for own account were reported for China (2,200 RB).  Exports of 120,300 RB were up 3 percent from the previous week, but down 21 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (50,400 RB), Vietnam (15,400 RB), Turkey (14,600 RB), Mexico (11,600 RB), and South Korea (4,000 RB).  Net American Pima sales of 300 RB were reported for Japan.  Exports of 100 RB were to Mexico.

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 822,700 pieces--a marketing-year high--were reported for delivery in 2011, up noticeably from the previous week and up 95 percent from the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hides of 820,700 pieces were primarily for China (445,800 pieces), South Korea (153,600 pieces), Taiwan (83,100 pieces), Vietnam (57,400 pieces), and Mexico (27,200 pieces).  Decreases were reported for Thailand (2,400 pieces).  Exports of 514,800 pieces, all whole cattle hides were up 29 percent from the previous week and 16 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary buyers were China (307,900 pieces), South Korea (71,200 pieces), Taiwan (47,900 pieces), Vietnam (34,900 pieces), and Mexico (20,000 pieces).                  

Net sales of 56,200 wet blues for delivery in 2011 were primarily for China (16,900 unsplit and 200 grain splits), Mexico (13,100 grain splits and 1,900 unsplit), Thailand (13,400 unsplit), and South Korea (2,400 grain splits and 1,700 unsplit).  Decreases were report for the Dominican Republic (2,800 unsplit).  Exports of 139,000 hides were primarily to China (62,800 unsplit and 10,700 grain splits), Vietnam (17,100 unsplit), Mexico (14,500 grain splits and 1,700 unsplit), and Thailand (6,700 unsplit and 3,600 grain splits).  Net sales of splits totaling 264,500 pounds reported for South Korea (224,200 pounds), Italy (38,200 pounds), and Vietnam (2,100 pounds).  Exports of 112,800 pounds were to South Korea.

Beef:  Net sales of 23,600 MT for delivery in 2011 were primarily for Japan (4,200 MT), Mexico (4,100 MT), Vietnam (3,900 MT)South Korea (3,500 MT), and Canada (2,600 MT).  Exports of 19,400 MT--a marketing-year high--were mainly to Mexico (4,100 MT), Japan (3,300 MT), Canada (3,300 MT), South Korea (2,700 MT), and Russia (2,200 MT).
