Video: Field School 2022 - Simple Soil Moisture, Dr. Mark Johnson & Lewis Baarda

Lewis Baarda & Ensemble Scientific's Dr. Mark Johnson deliver their journey in developing an autonomous variable rate irrigation (VRI) system; this study is supported by Results Driven Agriculture Research (RDAR). Working with a pivot with existing VRI capabilities, our system will place a series of soil moisture probes in a research field that will provide real-time, around the clock information about soil moisture status in the field. This information, in combination with weather forecasts and some input from farmers, will form the base of a dynamic VRI prescription service. Growers can view in-field moisture parameters at any time, and will receive VRI recommendations every few days that are updated to current and anticipated conditions.
