In an increasingly complex agricultural environment, farmers are constantly faced with new challenges and opportunities, requiring them to make tough decisions while striving to reach their personal and professional farming goals. Successful farmers are not afraid to reach out for help to guide their decision-making from those with greater experience and perhaps some lessons learned along the way. In this discussion panel, we will explore two avenues Canada’s farmers are using to support getting outside help to maintain excellence: mentorship and peer advisory groups, along with technology solutions that are helping farmers build their network of industry experts.

The Cattlemen’s Young Leaders program was established in 2010 to support the next generation in leading the beef industry into the future. Tyler Fewings and Scott Dickson will discuss what drew them to the program as well as the impact and value of their mentorship experience.

Growing up on his family farm cultivated Terry Aberhart’s passion for agriculture and entrepreneurial growth. Terry will share his experience in creating a peer advisory group for the farm, His farm decided to push the envelope for the farm’s long-term business strategy, stacking their team with experienced entrepreneurs, none of whom are farmers themselves.

Patrick A. Walther is an award-winning Swiss entrepreneur who holds a Master of Science degree in agronomy and on-farm research, specializing in management and leadership. Patrick’s passion is facilitating the development of ag-focused technology and overseeing its commercialization, which has led to his most recent endeavour as co-founder of AgVisorPro, an online platform that connect people in agriculture, directly and globally
