
Canada’s federal government is implementing its carbon tax strategy this year. Provinces without a carbon pricing policy will pay $20/tonne of carbon in 2019. The price will rise by $10/tonne each year until it reaches $50/tonne in 2022.
Farm organizations and members of the Senate ag committee have voiced concerns over the federal policy, citing increased production costs for farmers who can’t pass those expenses on to consumers.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe have vowed to fight the carbon tax in court.
