Several corn growers experienced high levels of vomitoxin (DON) in their crops last year. Grain elevators docked farmers upon delivery and elevators refused to accept some truckloads.
Ernie Hardeman, Ontario’s ag minister, will ask the federal government to declare the DON issue as a natural disaster to release funding under the AgriRecovery program.
Minister Hardeman also extended the deadline for applications to support projects that can use DON corn. That deadline is now Feb. 28.
