6 Trade Deals That Benefitted U.S. Ag

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) between the U.S., Canada and Mexico came into effect on Jan. 1, 1994.

Between the years 1993 and 2000, U.S. ag exports to Canada and Mexico expanded by about 59 percent.

In 2017, the three countries began negotiations on a revamped NAFTA, which became the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

That deal, which has only been ratified by Mexico, opens Canada’s dairy market to U.S. dairy products and allows American wheat to be graded on the same plane as Canada’s domestic wheat.
