Premier Moe shuffled Daryl Harrison out of cabinet

A familiar face is back as Saskatchewan’s minister of agriculture.

Premier Scott Moe brought David Marit, the MLA for Wood River who held the ag portfolio from 2018 to 2024, back to the ag file in a Dec. 11 cabinet shuffle.

The ag portfolio also includes Saskatchewan Crop Insurance.

Marit was already in cabinet as minister of highways, SaskBuilds and the Global Transportation Hub.

Sean Wilson, the MLA for Canora-Pelly, will now handle SaskBuilds, while Kim Garnter, the MLA for Kinderley-Biggar, will oversee the highways file.

Premier Moe shuffled Marit’s predecessor, Daryl Harrison, and two others, out of cabinet.

Travis Keisig is out as environment minister but was named as a legislative secretary to the minster responsible for Crown Investments Corporation. And Colleen Young is no longer the energy and resources minister.

Chris Beaudry, the MLA for Kelvington-Wadena, and Darlene Rowden, the MLA for Batoche, will handle those responsibilities, respectively.

Harrison, Keisig and Young will still serve as chairs of legislative committees.

The shuffle is designed to accomplish a specific goal, the premier said.

“This is about building capacity across the government caucus, not just in the cabinet office,” Moe told reporters after the shuffle, adding the changes are “not about in any way competence.”

Minister Marit will also have a legislative secretary.

James Thorsteinson, the MLA for Cut Knife-Turtleford, will hold this role.
