DuPont Pioneer - a world leader in plant genetics, held a grand opening of its new $15 million parent seed facility near Wingham, Ontario on Thursday. DuPont Pioneer is making strides to continue to meet the needs of farmers and the opening of this new facility is an indication of the investment that the company is making in the Canadian market.
The production facility is 50,000 square feet and is home to a cold storage warehouse, automated seed cleaning, and a dense-phase pneumatic seed conveying system. The new facility will specialise in parent canola and soybean seeds. The plant has been a few years in the making and the building of the facility began in 2010. The products produced at the plant will most likely be sold throughout Western Canada and South American markets.
