Former Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach joins Vote to Stay.

On Canada Day, former Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach joined the Vote to Stay campaign and is encouraging Albertans to support a strong Alberta within a united Canada.

Stelmach, Alberta’s 13th premier, is a lifelong farmer from Lamont and the grandson of Ukrainian immigrants. Throughout his career, he has served Albertans in several roles, including municipal government and provincial leadership. Despite his public service experience, he has remained closely connected to his rural community and agricultural roots.

"Albertans have never faced challenges by walking away. We’ve always met them by rolling up our sleeves, working together, and building something better,” said Stelmach.

“I believe our future is strongest as part of Canada, where Albertans can continue to build, lead, and make our country better. That's why I’m proud to support Vote to Stay, and I encourage every Albertan who believes in a strong Alberta within a united Canada to join us.”

The endorsement was welcomed by Vote to Stay founder Monte Solberg. "Ed Stelmach represents the values that have always made Alberta strong – hard work, community, optimism, and common sense," said Solberg. "His voice carries tremendous credibility, particularly in rural Alberta, and we’re honoured to have his support."

According to the organization, growing numbers of Albertans are becoming involved in discussions about the province’s future and the benefits of remaining within Canada. Vote to Stay believes that public awareness of the practical impacts of separation is contributing to increased interest in its campaign.

The movement aims to unite Albertans who want to see a strong province continue to grow and prosper as part of the country. Supporters are encouraged to learn more about the campaign, sign the organization’s pledge, and connect through its online platforms.
