Kansas State advances global food security goals
Cargill has donated $1 million to the Kansas State University Agriculture Innovation Initiative, moving the university within 5% of its $210 million fundraising goal. This latest contribution also pushes Cargill’s lifetime giving to Kansas State over the $10 million milestone, reinforcing a long-standing partnership with the university.
The Agriculture Innovation Initiative, launched in 2022 and led by the College of Agriculture, is designed to advance global food security through cutting-edge research, modern infrastructure, and strong industry collaboration. It addresses a 15-year need to update Kansas State’s agricultural facilities and programs.
Funds from Cargill and other donors will support four major construction and renovation projects: the Global Center for Grain and Food Innovation, the Agronomy Research and Innovation Center, the Bilbrey Family Event Center, and improvements to Call and Weber halls. These facilities will create new opportunities for interdisciplinary research and enhance student learning experiences.
Kansas State University President Richard Linton highlighted that the initiative will improve recruitment of students and faculty, boost local economic activity, and strengthen research outcomes. Interim dean Dan Moser expressed gratitude to Cargill for its consistent support, noting that the College of Agriculture remains a national leader in agricultural education.
Scott Eilert, senior director of responsible sourcing for Cargill’s global food business, said the company invests in the initiative because it brings academia and industry together to help farmers produce more food with less environmental impact. This partnership reflects a shared mission to nourish a growing global population.
Through the Agriculture Innovation Initiative, Kansas State aims to advance food production techniques and sustainability, benefiting not just Kansas farmers but communities around the world.
